Peter Tucker Supports Canterbury with Current and Planned Gifts

Peter Tucker ’78 has a historical family connection to Canterbury School. Four of his siblings and one uncle all attended Canterbury, and his grandfather, Carlton Hayes, was an early board member and instrumental advisor to the School’s founding headmaster, Dr. Nelson Hume. In addition to his longtime annual giving and support for specific projects, Peter has also included a bequest to the School in his will.

“Giving back to Canterbury is deeply personal,” he says. “My experiences there gave me independence and self-reliance at an early age, an exceptional education shaped by outstanding teachers and individual attention, and numerous opportunities to really grow athletically. Most important, Canterbury gave me lifelong, geographically diverse friendships and a broader perspective that has stayed with me throughout my life.”

As a student, Peter played varsity soccer and lacrosse, was involved in theatre and dorm leadership, and was a proctor in the freshman dorm his senior year. He remains connected to the School as a class ambassador and has served as president of the Society of Alumni for eight years and as a board member for seven years.

“Giving to Canterbury is a chance for me to give back and pay it forward!” Peter says. “The strong educational foundation, meaningful experiences, and friendships Canterbury gave me at such an early age continue to influence and guide my life today.”

Peter encourages others to consider making a planned gift to support future students. “I think so many of us have a special place for Canterbury in our hearts,” he concludes. “Giving back to Canterbury is a way to recognize that and say thank you for the privilege of the experiences, education, and friendships Canterbury gave us at such an important time in our formative development.”
